According to a Naples beach attendant, nearly
600 beach chairs were laid in front of the hotel and neighboring condo,
20 March 2005. These chairs can only be occupied by guests of the hotel.
Here an Erosion Control
Line (see special lines) has
established the public's rights
upland from the usual high water line.
Clearly one can see that
the area in front of the hotel is not the area of highest human density,
but the area to the right of the sail boat (which is a county park). The area just left of
the sail boat appears to have less human density with hotel
equipment (cabanas and white beach chairs) taking over the public
beach. Many beach goers feel that the hotel has a
'private beach' and avoid the area.
Those
walking along the shoreline are squashed between the rows of chairs and
cabanas.
HOW COULD AN EMERGENCY
VEHICLE NEGOTIATE THROUGH THIS CLUTTER
This
barrier remained on the beach even after I requested that it
be removed. The group to the right felt that this barrier
indicated that it was a private beach. They had to walk from
the Vanderbilt entrance in the north and walk around the hotel
equipment to get to what they perceived as a 'public area'. David
Garcia from Miami was VERY upset.
'POOL CLOSED- PLEASE EXCUSE THE INCONVENIENCE' - Says the sign
A
beach vendor places his entire stock on the sand (20 cabanas) for rental, even
though only some may be occupied through the course of the day
regardless, occupying those locations and footprints.
